Windmilled out

The LWD and I spent two days doing the rounds of the windmills of Kinderdijk and Schiedam.

Near Kinderdijk we stayed next to a yacht building yard, I presume the current project is for a Russian oligarch or similar. It’s f*** **f humungous, photo of the masts below …

Sunset near Kinderdijk

The windmills of the two places could not be more similar or more different;

Kinderdijk windmills pumped water out of the low lying marshes to make an C18th polder providing arable land and grazing for dairy cattle.

Schiedam’s windmills ground, and in some cases still grind, grain for the local distilleries to make jenever (gin).

Milk or gin windmill type? I wonder which my regular reader’s choice would be?

😉 😉 😉
