Friday night saw the return of K and the Smart One brought by L’s (K’s BFF) taxis; L has now joined us for the duration. The sky did not oblige for a second time and Percy’s passing was unobserved by us.

Plenty of bits of stuff flying through the air on Saturday tho’ in the form of smuts emitting from 76096 “The North Eastern”   as it pulled us the 24 miles between Pickering and Whitby along the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. We had a bit of a wander round Whitby and enjoyed a superb late lunch in one of the very many fish and chip restaurants before heading back to the station for the return journey stopping again at “Hogsmeade” (Harry Potter films) / “Aidensfield” (Heartbeat TV series) station, officially known as Goathsland Station. The line runs through gorgeous moorland reaching a height of 150m at Fen Bog, the three mile 1 in 49 gradient between Grosmont and Goathland being the most impressive of the many on this line.
